How to use HDCN

As of May 13, 1996, you will need to register to access many parts of HDCN, including most of the article and abstract summaries, discussion threads, etc.

Weekly Browsing

Once a week, go to the weekly update section to find out what has been added. About 3-8 articles are added each week. This section also has a CME site of the week, and will tell you if a new NEPHROL thread or ASK the PROF has been added.

You should look at the quarterly list of articles (for example "win '96" for winter 1996). The titles are divided into hypertension, dialysis, and clinical nephrology. The first month's articles from each quarter are preceded by a yellow ball , the second month's by a green ball , and the third month's by a red ball .

Selected abstracts are arranged by meeting. Click on the meeting title for a list of abstracts.

Looking for something in particular

The topic areas (n=140) can be accessed from the home page (hypertension, dialysis, or clinical nephrology). Here you will find all of the collected abstract and article reviews pertaining to a given topic area. You can also do a word search of the entire site, or of the 1995 or 1996 articles or abstracts using ICE.

News Alerts

Other areas to check regularly are the news alert section from the home page. Go to Reuters search and put in a keyword of hypertension, dialysis, or kidney. Check the AMA press releases, and those from the American Heart Association (added weekly).

The many other features of HDCN should be self-explanatory.

Good luck!
